My neighbors Chuck and Cherith lived in Australia for a year or so, and while they were there, they got into some Aussie music. They introduced me to a song by a group called Goyte (good luck trying to pronounce it) entitled "Heart's a Mess." It’s an interesting song that usually tends to get stuck in your head.

Last night, we had a game night in their apartment, and “Heart’s a Mess” came on. When Cherith heard it she makes the comment she feels like she has long legs. To which Chuck responded, “That’s because you’ve seen the music video!” This made me curious and led me to research the video and the lyrics. Apparently, this video won the Australian music video of the year award. The whole song is about a guy wandering around the world looking for people who are messed up and hurt and wanting to connect, and connecting with them. Check out the first part of the lyrics:

I guess the whole song is another inroad into seeing the heart of how we feel the world is. It’s a mess. We’re all desperate to connect. But we’ve all been burned and hurt, and want to get away, to hole up and just forget everything. But really what we need to do is connect. We are all looking for something hopeful; some safe place where we can open up our hearts and not worry about getting burned.

He ends the song with this:
Love ain’t safe
You won’t get hurt if you stay chaste
So you can wait
But I don’t wanna waste my love
