what is the last and best hope of the world?

Barack Obama in a speech in April of 2007 made this quote, "I still believe that America is the last, best hope of Earth" in a speech at the Chicago Council of Global Affairs.

A Christian believes that the Church is the last, best hope of Earth.

to take it deeper - Christ is the hope of the world...

I think this quote betrays a fundamental misunderstanding represented both within and outside of Christianity.

I remember a few years ago when GW said "Democracy is God's gift to the world." Hmmm...I guess Jesus got supplanted.

The Soteriology of the State, my friend, it's the religion of most Americans - even Christian ones.

conibell - true. but Christ is working through the Church. the way we live as members of the church is how God though Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit plans on bringing restoration to the world. So the church is the last and best hope for the world!

Tommy - well said. I went to a Baptist High School, and in our history classes we learned (this is high school) that democracy is God's plan for government and we can find it in the OT... so I think you're right about that!
