The language we use influences the way we think about people. When we aren't thinking about how we refer to people, we continue with our unchallenged thoughts about them. I agree that we don't do it intentionally or maliciously but we won't change our feelings and actions toward people without changing the way we think about them.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10683211415458315722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9815537.post-2845915893507013072008-10-15T10:57:00.000-04:002008-10-15T10:57:00.000-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14720362416457208688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9815537.post-26794719384574336352008-10-15T08:50:00.000-04:002008-10-15T08:50:00.000-04:00Sometimes we say things wrong because we don't thi...Sometimes we say things wrong because we don't think about it...poor people vs. people who are poor. Having worked with people who have disabilities (NOT "DISABLED PEOPLE"), I have been familiar with "people first" language for some time. It IS important to change the way we talk about PEOPLE in order to keep from objectifying them.

I'm still trying to work out the short-term mission voyeurism idea. I wonder how we get people to change their view on injustice without exposure or is it a problem of overexposure like he said? I don't know...I would love some feedback on this idea.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10683211415458315722noreply@blogger.com
